Code: SS
Site types that use this protocol: Terrestrial
Soil solution chemistry is likely to be affected by physical and chemical changes in the environment and itself to have important effects on ecosytem processes; for example, soil temperature and moisture status strongly influence the microbial activity in soil which controls nutrient release into the soil solution (Swift, Heal & Anderson 1979). In turn, soil solution nutrient status has a major influence on plant productivity and thus on animal productivity.
Replicated suction lysimeters at the base of a & b soil horizons are sampled every two-weeks and analysed fo 15 chemical variables.
