We were saddened to learn of the death recently of Professor Mike Hornung. Mike was the director of the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology's* Merlewood site for many years, before retiring in the early 2000s. He was a highly respected soil scientist who started UKCEH's catchment biogeochemical programme. He was also a much appreciated advocate for ECN. He chaired our Statistical and Technical Advisory Group (STAG) when it was first established in 1993 and was lead author of our soil properties monitoring protocol. We say farewell to a wonderful man who was an inspiration to many. Our thoughts are with his family.
