Here our ECN Moor House student for 2011-12, Lucia, shares her thoughts on her placement at ECN Moor House

My year with ECN was extremely enjoyable. I gained valuable experience in the field, laboratory and scientific research. The team that I was part of at Moor House-Upper Teesdale was welcoming and encouraging and gave me countless opportunities to expand my knowledge and understanding of ecology.

A favourite part of the job was visiting the field site every week. The isolated and rugged nature of the site gave me a chance to spot some rare birds such as the golden plover and also provided me with many great photo opportunities, especially in the snow!

This placement is a superb experience that I would highly recommend to any student looking to put their studies into context and understand more about environmental monitoring.

Lucia joined ECN whilst studying for a BSc in Environmental Management at the University of Hertfordshire.
